Highlights of the Week |
Happy Friday! It’s nice to end the week, not in such frigid temperatures, to talk about polar opposites compared to last Friday! As a center, we have been busy working on projects for Valentine’s Day and our East Asia culture unit. We are also looking forward to our center international night that will be coming up Wednesday, 2/22, at 5:30; it will be held at the Filarmonica Cultural Center just a few doors down. Also, for any families who would like to participate, we would love for you to join us for a presentation or performance. Please let me know if you can email me at ecam.director@jamirrdc.com. Classroom Highlights: Infants 1: In infant 1, we’ve been doing a lot of sensorial exploration. We finger-painted strawberries, and the Korean flag, as well as some gifts for our parents for Valentine’s Day. Today, we explored water beads. The infants took turns standing in a bucket full of the beads & played with their feet/hands. Aurea started crawling on the same day as her 8-month mark! T. is maneuvering very well around the classroom, holding onto things/the walker. We’re eager for him to walk. N. is starting to gain the strength to sit fully up & graduated from her PT classes this week! O. is as happy as ever and sits up more alone without support. We also got to try some Asian Pear, which the infants really enjoyed because of how sweet it was! We are growing stronger and happier each day here in infant 1! We cannot wait to see what next week has in store for us as we explore our taste buds more and try some Japchae noodles! Infant 2: This week, A. started walking on the rope more, N. started talking more and trying to walk, and M. started walking this week! We are super proud of her. Mi. is also starting to walk and talk more in sign language, E. is standing on her own more, and Ma. is talking more and making her way around the classroom! She is also doing a lot better during nap time, and we are super proud of her. T. is starting to get used to a class routine, drinking all his bottles and eating all his solids. Toddler A: In Toddler A the students made handmade valentine cards for each other and made a bear-y 💌 for their parents! They started to draw with chalk and painted. Also, they’ve been loving playing with the sensory bins! We have been teaching them to clean up after themselves as well. Overall, it’s been an artsy fun-tastic week for Toddler A. Toddler B: This week our Toddler B friends have been soaking up some more of the South Korean culture – they have truly enjoyed listening to the music from this region. We also made South Korean flags and learned about the meanings of the symbols and colors. Our Toddler B friends also assisted in making some South Korean “Kimchi” , a Korean dish similar to sauerkraut – it’s crunchy, spicy, salty, sour and a little sweet. Although we made sure to make a non-spicy version with our friends. They didn’t show much interest in trying our creation, but they really enjoyed the process of making it. We also introduced a new shelf work to our friends which was by far a crowd favorite. Toddler B now has their own clothesline to hang clothes using clothespins. Our friends have not yet mastered the skills needed to open clothespins and hang items on the line, but we will continue working with them until they have become laundry-hanging pros! Preschool 527: We’ve had a lot of fun painting and decorating our Valentine boxes and are excited to give each other valentines on Tuesday! We’ve been having a lot of talks about how our body belongs to ourselves and that we need to ask before we touch other people and what we can say if people touch us and we don’t like it. It’s also been a week for bringing out the soccer ball to play out on the field! Preschool: 580: This week we focused on spreading love and kindness. Our classroom is shared with the executive team so we spent time writing what we love about TQ, Melissa, and Christian. We also worked on some valentines for friends and teachers. We are all working on perfecting our blend sound knowledge so we played a special fly swatting game swatting blend sounds in different words. We read a book from Taiwan which our friend K. helped us read, as many words were in Mandarin. We also got to put together our giant hundreds board scavenger hunt looking for numbers around the room. We have also been practicing for International night and perfecting our Mandarin for our songs. Today, we are excited to enjoy our “summer” weather and spend so much time. We are still so excited to use our chopsticks for lunch and we will try some yummy boba and taro flavored drinks in the afternoon. Below I’ve attached an updated Parent Handbook and the center’s monthly calendar. We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and see you on Monday! Cole & Pamela |
