Highlights of the Week
Happy Friday, Everyone!
Oh, boy, did we start out this Friday off with some chaos over here at 535! That fire alarm was a surprise for us all, but everyone jumped into action so fast and evacuation the building quickly. Big shout out to Tali our music teacher, who happened to be in a middle of a music class when the alarms went off to help us evacuate and, once we were in a safe area, sang to the kids to calm them down! We love our music teachers; they are the best.
A few center announcements today was Ms. Daysi’s last day; we are sad she leaving, but we are so proud of her for taking this time to focus on school! WAY TO GO, DASYI!! We are happy to announce our new infant 2 teacher Escarlet will be starting this Monday.

Our East Asia international night will be on February 22 at the Filmarmonica. Any families who would like to present during the international night, please let me know. As well as any families who would like to volunteer to help set as well. I look forward to these nights seeing the children perform and seeing everyone come together as a community. Closer to the date, I will send out a sign-up sheet for the potluck as well. Please keep in mind we are a nut-free center, and to please reframe bringing in something with nuts.

Classroom Highlights
Infants: This week, N., Mi., and E. have been standing up a lot more on their own! A. is starting to repeat more words, and he even repeats colors like “blue, red, green,” etc.. Tristan is doing amazing drinking all his bottles and eating his solids, he’s also traveling around the classroom a lot more. Mikey has been away most of this week but he is finally reunited with his friends and seems to be more than happy to be back  (we all missed him). Ma.is talking a lot more and traveling the classroom as well.

Toddler A: This week, the students have been able to say the colors blue, pink, and yellow. A. has recognized me as ‘Aut-yn’ and says more words. S. has said all his classmates’ names and my name during pick-up. The class painted an octopus with bubble wrap! Toddler A has been improving on cleaning up after themselves. Q., E., and A. know how to put the toys back in the basket and push them onto the shelves. Lastly, A. has been a joyful addition to Toddler A. He enjoys circle time and playing with Toddler A toys.

Toddler B: This week we welcomed O. as our friend L. enters preschool! Some of our friends are learning to say thank you after asking for something!  We are trying to get our kids into the momentum of working with the works on the shelf rather than just dumping them on the floor as well as using walking feet in the classroom.

527: This week we stayed inside a lot so we had fun with indoor movements, like yoga, exercising, and dancing. We’ve been working on tracing letters, bigger and smaller numbers, and learning all about space!

580: This week we studied even more about East Asia; this has been our favorite cultural unit so far! Because it’s been so cold we’ve been training to be superheroes with some intense, child-appropriate, circuit training. We worked on new practical life works, learning how to thread a needle, sew, and work on mindfulness with our new yoga cards. We went on some more letter-sound scavenger hunts and worked on building longer CVCC words. We worked on lots of surprise art projects for Valentine’s Day for our family and all the other classrooms. We also got to learn about Japanese Kokeshi dolls, a traditional wooden dolls that is carved and painted all by hand! We made our own Kokeshi that looked just like us and our sibling or pets. We worked with geo solids and found actual items in our classroom and in the world that are the same shapes. Because today is a short day we got to play Savannah’s Bluey board game, Candy Land, and Chutes & Ladders. We are excited to use are chopsticks with our cultural meals again too! We are even more excited to go home early and have a longer weekend!
See you all on Monday, and stay warm,
Cole and Pamela

Please welcome Escarlet! I’m from Peru and arrived in this country eight years ago. I have a 19-year-old daughter, and I’ve been working as a teacher for seven years. I love my work and being with the children. I love that I’m learning more about what I love to do every day. I also love music and look forward to the music classes that happen every day.
