We’ve Been Rockin’ and Rollin’ |
Hi friends! I know its been a while, I apologize for my absence. It is good to be back into the groove of updating you all about 580! Because it has been so long please be prepared for a slew of random pictures that span over a bit of time. We have been working extra hard at 580 in all subject areas. Our greatest accomplishments have been introducing some new READERS, knowing all about East Asia, understanding how to read and interpret numbers, and killing it at Where’s Waldo! We are so sad to say goodbye to our East Asian studies but are so excited to explore so many cultures and languages in Western Europe! While studying East Asia we perfected our use of chopsticks, made a strong attempt to learn Mandarin, tried so many snacks, and read so many books from the region. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to H Mart and loved having K.’s mom share about Taiwan. We also learned about mindfulness through one of our readings and perfected our own version of meditating. By far, our favorite book and project was our Kokeshi dolls! We enjoyed learning about this ancient craft and making our own. We have had to have lots of conversations to better our own feelings and emotions. Thus far we have learned about consent, better communicating our feelings, and conflict resolution. While growing and gaining our own sense of self and personality, these conversations have been VERY frequent. I have asked Christy, my favorite Cambridge librarian, to help my compile a list of books to aid in these conversations. I will share this list with you when I can. Below you will see that I have attached a multitude of documents. We will do so much this month. Here are the main topics what we will be focusing on in each subject area: Geography: Western Europe (I added some more information at the bottom of this newsletter) & two field trips Music: Cultural Songs, Pitch, RhythmArt: Cultural Art & working with different medium, small parts art (which for this class is just cutting paper and leaving it all over the room hehe) Practical Life: Taking Care of Oneself & conflict resolution Math: Interpreting numbers and understanding number trends Science: Plate tectonics (L. has begged to do a volcano experiment and I must follow through!) and plants assuming Mass gets with the weather program and warms up a little Language: Building words and reading And A. turns 5 this month!!!!! Ky Cultural Studies: I am pumped for our new unit, which means my brain is in overdrive again! I’ve got lots of plans for this unit! 1. We will be taking a field trip to Whole Foods (central square) to buy cheeses and fancy meats to sample. We will make a wee little charcuterie board. 2. We will take another field trip to the MFA to look at some Western European Art. I will bring art supplies for them to use while in the museum and we will create a class mural following a piece of art that we enjoyed the most. 3. We will take the long trek to Curio for yummy waffles because…Belgium? 4. I will get various snacks from Aldi and Eataly for us to sample. 5. We will be doing LOTS of art for the next 2 months so I apologize in advance. 6. My “sister-in-law” lives in France. She is actually an English teacher and works with elementary students. She will be meeting with us via Zoom to teach us all about France and perfect our French skills. Housekeeping: 1. We are moving into Western Europe. If you have visited any of the countries we will be studying I would love for you to come in and tell us about your discoveries, or if you’re not into the whole teaching thing, you can always email pictures or bring in materials for me to talk about instead. 2. School closes at 5:30. I stay after with one child already because their parent works at another location. I love you all but I will be charging you for your tardiness.
