Highlights of the Week
Happy St. Patricks Day and Happy Friday!

I hope everyone survived this week; with the time change and the stomach bug that going around it hasn’t been the easiest week. I’m hoping we made it to the tail end of this stomach bug (fingers crossed). Teacher tip by sound silly, but a teacher gave me this tip, and I SWEAR by it if the words stomach bug starts going around, start drinking Grape Juice! I don’t know what it is, but it helps. I’ve always start drinking Grape Juice, went there with any stomach bug going around, and somehow it skips me. Now it could be the excessive hand washing that helps as well, but the combo of the two is the key to not getting the bug, or that is what I believe to be the key!

Thank you to the parents who have reached out interested in coming in to talk with preschoolers and toddlers. So far, we have Portugal and Ireland reach out and set dates to come in. This week E. (L.’s Mom) come in and talked with the 527 preschool classroom about Spain and Ireland. We also had J.(B.’s Mom) come in to talk with both preschool classrooms about Ireland and Northern Ireland! If any families have been to France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, or Spain!

We would like for you to visit and chat with Toddlers or Preschoolers!
Feel welcome to email me at ecam.director@jamirrdc.com

Classroom Highlights:

Infants:
Infant A: This week in Infant 1 our friends have been exploring France 🇫🇷 we learned about the colors on the flag- red, white, and blue- similar to the American flag. We have been enjoying the music very much, as it is very soft, and slow. Next week, we plan to try some French bread 🥖 We also painted birds out of our feet! They came out super cute & add some character to our classroom. Thomas is maneuvering around so much & even practicing walking/speaking! A. is pulling herself up into the standing position! N. is a pro at sitting up. O. is learning how to crawl forwards instead of backward. A. had one full day with success drinking her bottles & we are super proud of her progress! We are just growing and glowing here in Infant 1.

Infant B: This week in Infant B, we have been doing a lot of finger painting, exploring colors, and looking at different shapes. We have also been looking at and reading a lot of books as well. We are really liking looking at our new cultural books. Many of our friends are starting to move around; we are continually working on walking and standing on our own!
Toddlers:
Toddler A: This week, Toddler A learned all about French culture. They enjoyed reading the France book with their favorite character Bebe and Madeline’s seasons! The students also love to read good night moon. They painted their own Van Gogh-inspired project, which you can see hanging up in our classroom. Toddler A has loved playing at Kennedy Park! Hopefully, the weather will become warmer soon! The students are ready to see butterflies and flowers and experience warm weather on the playground. The students have done so well at washing the germs off their hands with soap! They really understand the Toddler A routine now. At the end of the week, they created a rainbow collage with a pot of gold. And they created handprint shamrock clover to bring home to their parents. To finish off the week, they will immerse with our sparkly green sensory bin and eat St Patty sugar cookies! Toddler A had a fun-tastic week and can’t wait to learn more!
Toddler B: This week, our toddler B friends have been exploring the culture of France.  We read “Bonjour Everywhere” – our friends really enjoyed this book & spent LOTS of time practicing saying ‘Bonjour’ themselves. We even added ‘Bonjour’ to our morning greeting song at circle time! The weather has finally started warming up – our friends love that we are able to spend more time exploring outside, taking walks, and playing at the playground. Our Toddler B friends are the most excited about our classroom plants – they truly enjoy being able to water them each morning with Ms. Tracey and Ms. Marie, and they Love, Love, LOVE watching them grow. Our plants have made so much progress in such a short amount of time! We will be ending the week in celebration of St. Patrick’s day by exploring our senses and painting shamrocks with bell peppers. We will also be decorating some shamrock sugar cookies that Ms. Marie baked for us – I’m sure our toddler B friends will enjoy working with frosting and sprinkles.
(Cookies will be sent home. Don’t worry, parents – we’ll leave the sugary discretion up to you!)
Preschool:
Preschool 527: We were very lucky this week to have E., L’s mom, come to talk about Spain and Ireland! E. is from Spain and studied for her Ph.D. in Ireland, where she met B., and now they live here! E. and L. showed us some flamenco and river dance moves, which are very hard to do! We also got J., B.’s mom, to show us some pictures of Ireland – and she told us a really fun story about the Giant’s Causeway. It was all perfect timing for St. Patrick’s Day. Our classroom was such a big mess today, and although we sadly didn’t catch a leprechaun, he very kindly left us his shamrocks to take care of and a pot of gold!

Pre-K 580: We were VERY busy this week at 580. We started by reading a lovely story about a mischievous leprechaun and learned the best ways to catch one. We had a lesson about compound words and using pictured dominos, we learned that we can combine two words together to create new words. This led us to us combining all types of words, that didn’t make much sense…but we had fun! We were all excited to leave early in hopes for a bunch of snow but we were fooled once again! We have been loving our Western Europe studies so we also spent time this week watching videos of famous landmarks and trying to build them with wooden blocks. On Thursday we had a multi-part circle lesson with B.’s mom coming in to share pictures and stories from her three trips to Ireland. We loved seeing all the castles she visited and we imagined living in our favorite one. We also had a huge discussion of kindness and how to be kind to people, ourselves, and the world. We came up with some awesome ways to be kind and took an oath to always be kind and spread kindness, even when we don’t feel kindness being shared with us.  Thursday was also the big day to set our trap! We spent all week discussing how we would trap a leprechaun. We prepared one and decorated it with all the things to lure a wee little lad right into our hands. We had our trap perfectly situated so that we would catch one but unfortunately he got away and left a big mess everywhere! There were footprints, clues hidden around, green milk, Lucky Charms, and he even left green pee in our toilet! We followed the clues he left behind that led us to the trap where all he left was a mischievous message of how he tricked us once again. To be nice he spread coins around the room for us to find. We enjoyed funfetti cupcakes in the afternoon to close out our great week!
Have a lovely weekend; we will see you all on Monday!
With lots of love,Cole & Pamela
